I love to travel, but I don’t necessarily enjoy the packing. Who else can relate to that?
Recently we were getting ready to go away for a weekend in the mountains and I posted on my personal Facebook page how I love to travel, but I don’t love to pack.
I actually dread packing. I got ton of comments in that post of people who are in similar situation.
So I would like to share with you some of the tips that I gathered from asking my friends about this dilemma.
I’m sure this will make your packing easier and actually a little more enjoyable for you.
The Tips
Well, I have a couple of really smart friends and so I asked them for some tips about my travel packing situation. They gave me some tips that I put to use right away.
Use Packing Cubes
One of the tips that came up was to consider using packing cubes.
Packing cubes are these zipper packs that can fit a ton of stuff in.
One of my friends said, “It’s almost like you have a dresser drawer in your suitcase.”
I ended up buying these packing cubes from ShackePak.
The cool thing about this packing cube is you can actually fit more into your space.
You are able to roll some of the things, fold some of the things, and these packing cubes have really good reviews on Amazon. It even comes with a real simple, little laundry bag.
You can check out these packing cubes here.
Double is NOT Trouble
Whoever coined the expression “double trouble” might not have had a packing dilemma.
I said this because the second tip is to have double of a lot of the things that you use when you travel.
Of course, I already have a second toothbrush and toothpaste, second deodorant, things like that, because I have forgotten them before.
One of my friends also recommended having a second pair of pajamas and second pairs of socks and underwear, and things like that.
One of my funny stories was when I was traveling for a speaking engagement and I forgot my slip! I had a dress to wear and I forgot my slip! So now, I always pack a second slip just so that I don’t forget it again.
You can actually even pack a few outfits like running outfits and other things that you think you will need on this travel. It is wise to always have double of everything.
Toiletry Bags are Really Useful
Browsing through Amazon, I have found this thing. It just came in today so I haven’t been able to use it yet. However, it is a space saver as it is thinner than my previous toiletry bag.
I have a toiletry bag that I use, I think it’s from Mary Kay but it was really thick. I wanted to try this new one because it is very thin and it lays flat.
It is called an eBags Toiletry Bag.
This has a hook, a lot of different compartments, pockets, and all sorts of things that you can use.
I also like this color, red is my favorite color, but this is my branding colors in Author Audience Academy, the red and the teal, so I thought, “How fun is that?”
You can find the eBags Toiletry bag on this link.
Write a Checklist of Your Travel Essentials
One of my friends did give me a link to a packing checklist. What I did was I had it sent to my email, and then I created my own customize packing list in Google Docs based upon that.
You can do it too. Here is the link to the packing checklist: packing checklist.
I know some of you are not list people, but having these systems actually conserves brain power. And it makes sure that you have everything you need packed.
So there you have it. With these tips in mind, I hope that your next packing journey will be as fun as your travel. Until next time!
